However, he did say he’s only in it for ‘research’ — he’ll be taking down notes on mobile phones used by the participants and he’s even hoping to get photos to document the phone sighting.

I’m a bit curious, though. He called it speed networking. Tis the first time I’ve encountered it being called such. Made me think twice if he’s indeed going on a speed dating event. Heh. (Er, perhaps you can check it out for me and tell me if I got it wrong..? If I did… oh, dear.)

Eeek. Not sure what’s making me tell you to go. Oh, don’t mind me — it’s just brought about by my own not-so-good speed dating experience. Heh.

Speed Dating Event in Manila

You’re given a certain amount of time to get to know an X number of guy or girl participants and make a decision if you’d be interested to see them again.

Based from experience, I was only given 5 minutes each and there were 25 guys, so do the math! Since it was my first time, I thought there wasn’t enough time to make a proper decision so it turned out a disastrous experience for me. However, I’ve learned that if you make use of the right questions to aid you in making the right decision then it won’t be as terrible as mine was.

Apart from getting the name, top 5 questions that I’ll be asking are [not in particular order]:

• 1. If you are to go out with friends or on a date, where will you go?

  I want to establish whether if he’s an extrovert or an introvert. I want to know if he’d hang out in places where I like to hang out. And it somehow tells me just how secure he is with himself. Don’t you find a guy who’s an individual so attractive?

• 2. What are your hobbies or what do you do for fun?

  I like someone who has a life. I want to know whether I can learn something new with this person if I am to see him again. I’m sure you’d agree that it’s no fun to date a boring person, right?

• 3. Have you traveled much? If yes, where? If not, do you plan to?

  I love traveling and if I am to date a guy, he has to share the same passion for adventure. The relationship will not work if I keep flying off to exotic locations and he gets left behind, now will it?

• 4. I’ll ask a leading question that can determine his relationship with his parents and the rest of his family. This will depend on the flow of the conversation.

  What can I say? Personally, I believe that a guy’s relationship with his family reflects his true character. Family is important, don’t you agree?

• 5. What’s your reason for participating?

  Of course, I don’t want to hook up with someone who’s desperate, they tend to be the stalker-type. Ha. And I’m curious to know, is all. Hahaha. Wouldn’t you be?

I’ve chosen these questions because it can provide me with important traits of the individual and weigh it with mine, to come up with a decision. I’ve limited the questions to 5, granted that it can be answered in less than a minute each since he needs to ask me a few himself.

Top Speed Date Questions

According to a speed-dating experiment at Edinburgh International Science Festival, many women take about half a minute to make up their minds about a potential partner.

Following tests involving 500 `dates’. The findings revealed that women were twice as likely to make up their minds about the opposite sex than men.

According to the professor that was behind this study, men are often characterized as being shallow and tend to judge women too quickly. However, this particular study indicates that this particular common belief may be way off base – and that in reality; women are shallower and judge more quickly.

At least men were on average a little more creative with the common question that received the greatest response – that being “if you were on Stars in Your Eyes, who would you be and why?” (apparently this is a noted British television show that we in the U.S. are unaware of) While the most often asked question by women was “what’s your favorite pizza topping?”

Oh, I’m almost ashamed to be a woman at this point! Shallow and lacking in creativity? PuLease!

When it comes to being shallow, I’d say I was probably one of the guiltiest gals going and I did often sum up a man in a few seconds, but most times it was because of one of the key factors that I realized early on in the dating game that was important to me.

Three things that were always very important to me when meeting a new guy were:

- Nice and clean teeth

- Clean shoes

- the inside of his car would have to be clean

If one of those three things failed the test, it was a done deal!

Quirky?  You bet! 

Those are typically the least of a man’s worries. If he thinks enough to make sure his car and shoes are clean – that means other parts of his life were well organized and just as clean.

The teeth go without saying. I just couldn’t bring myself to kiss a man with icky teeth.

So, I pose this question to the readers here on Dating Dames. What are some of the quirky little things you feel you may indicate you are shallow. Things that dig into your very being and that regardless of how hard you try, you just can’t waiver?

Are women more shallow than men?

I’ll be honest, I’ve never tried one of those Speed Dating Events, though they look fun and interesting, it wasn’t something that had developed much interest during my dating career.

So when it comes to Speed Dating, I must live life vicariously through the experiences of others and what an experience it’s been.

Not only does Sasha take a leap and move to a new town, but she braves the wilds of dating and participates in a local event which she has kindly shared with us.
