The simplest answer I can come up with is because we spent time together and you know the old saying, “Family time is quality time,” I really do think someone was onto something when they came up with that. But it is true, the more time you spend with your family the more you get to know them.

Friday we all decided to hit up a brand new chinese restaurant out here, “Aikou” and I must say it was delicious. I made sure that we all tried something new though and everyone had to try something. Even if they never had it or didn’t think they’d like it. I grew up with hearing you never know if you’ll like it if you don’t try it. Today, our saying is “try it once, if you don’t like it never eat it again.” I figure this way at least they know and can say they’ve tried it. Granted I’ll probably never make them eat Rocky Mountain Oysters or a cow’s tongue but they’ll try other things. Oh and yes I’ve tried the second one, when I heard about the first one I couldn’t get near it. Course in all fairness I was almost completely vegetarian during that time period and had thought it was oysters I’d be eating. Do you make your kids try things even if they think it looks gross?

On Saturday we went off to a last minute baseball game, which I posted about yesterday. Today we played a few rounds of rummy and go fish and after that it was family day in the terms of cleaning house. Okay, so the kids didn’t honestly love the cleaning house part but they loved that everything we did was with them. I will admit to enjoying that too. Just think in less than two weeks they’ll be here all summer long….I’m not sure if I’m counting down until they get out of school or until they go back. What time of family time did you do this weekend?

Have a VERY HAPPY Thanksgiving everyone!
I’m cooking for my family and can’t wait to have our dinner. I love Thanksgiving. It’s the one time of the year where we actually take a moment for gratitude. How often can we say that?
I’m making my grandma’s recipe for Thanksgiving Cranberries, so if you’re stumped for a way to make them I highly recommend her recipe. Have a blessed day and thank you all for reading and commenting on this blog!

What do you do when you have been cooped up in the house for most of the week and you get hammered with 6-10 inches of snow?

Snowball fight!

I’m taking on the kids tomorrow (technically later today I guess). They might only be 4, but there are two of them and I’m sure their mom will help them cheat.

There are not many better family bonding moments than tossing snowballs at each other.

The kids can not really stay outside for much more than 30 minutes at a time without starting to get wet and cold from the snow. This will work perfect for spending a day with the kids.

We’ll probably play outside in the middle of the morning and then again in the middle of the afternoon which should help break up the boredom inside.

Snow also provides special memories because there just are not that many days with significant snow on the ground. I still remember the night when they were two that we had our first snowball fight. My daughter loved being chased and trying to run through the snow. My son thought it was hysterical every time a snowball hit him on the chest.

If you live in an area buried by snow this weekend, you simply must drag the kids outside and take advantage of it.

If you get bored with building snowmen and snow forts, you can grab a squirt bottle and add water and a little bit of food coloring and then use it to spray the snow. Spray bottles will create really neat splotches and sports drink bottles can be used to write and draw in the snow.
