I slid into bed and wiggled my legs between the sheets toward the foot of the bed.  As I stretched out, ready to relax, my toes touched something cold, slippery and slimy.
“Ahhhhhh!” I screamed. 
I threw back the the covers and jumped out of bed.
“What’s the matter?” my husband asked.
“Something awful is in the bed,” I replied.
I heard giggling as Jim drew the covers back further.  Then more giggling.
“It’s only a big toy spider,” he remarked.  “Nothing to be afraid of.”
Then the giggling coming from my daughter’s bedroom, where she and her girl friend were sleeping,  grew louder.

October is Spider Month!

I was never a spider lover myself but for some reason little boys live spider webs and they certainly love spiders. In fact, Google has even named their search engines after spiders because of the creepy crawly legs that reach out to all parts of the Internet.
But, when did we, as children, start learning spider tales? Well, there are the pre-school versions of the Itsy Bitsy Spider, There was an old lady…, etc.
