Summer reading programs at local libraries offer youngsters fun and reading encouragement.  Our library, the Pease Public Library in Plymouth, NH, has excited young readers for many years.  I’m always impressed by what is planned for youngsters and the community.  Also, the children receive prizes, donated by local businesses,  for the number of books they read during the summer.

Even, though my grandchildren are too old (high school and college age when the programs are geared for pre-school through grade 8), we do attend some of the family programs…movies, entertainers and projects.

I’ve taken Kara and Alex to these summer reading programs since they were in pre-school.  Then when I was no longer needed to help, I enjoyed the evening reading and using my laptop while I waited.

Visit your library and those in neighboring towns. We still check out many books and movies throughout the summer and enjoy them at home.

What Does Your Library Offer?

Here’s one thing I hate about being diabetic… the fact that it never goes away.  It’s draining some days.  Yeah, I deal with it but there are days when I just wish I could throw my needles and testing supplies out the window, and just have a day where I worked out and ate and didn’t have to deal with blood sugar.

On those days, it really helps to hear other people’s stories about being diabetic.  It doesn’t even mean I want to hear bad stories about it, but it’s just nice to know that there is someone else out there who knows what I’m going through. 

I thought it might be nice to share a bit about ourselves and remind other diabetics that they aren’t alone.  To that end, I’m going to be starting a “Putting a Face on Diabetes” segment where I will feature one of you.  I’ll give you some interview questions, share a photo (if you like) and just have you talk about your experience, things you like to do, and anything else you’d like to add.
