Apparently, Woods not only has a problem with his ACL (Do you have knee pain from a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)?), he now has stress fractures – breaks in a bone that are caused by overuse – that need to heal.

Knee injuries can come on suddenly or they can build up over time. While golf may not seem – to a non-golfer – to be stressful to the body, the forces required for a good swing can be very hard on the knees, as well as other joints.

In Woods’ case, the fear of arthritis is a real possibility. The overuse of the knee, the three surgeries within five years, are both risk factors for developing arthritis.
