1. What does the word diabetes mean?

“It means people that have diabetes in their body need help in eating diet type food. You can’t eat a lot of sugar, ice cream or candy. “

2. How does mommy test her sugar?

“You take a needle and there is a thing that tells you your sugar level by reading a little small tip of paper that is really hard with blood on it.”

3. Do you know anybody else that is diabetic?

“Yes, Mom Mom and mommy and my friend Samantha.” (By the way, I have no idea who this Samanatha friend is, maybe fictitious?)

4. Do people have to take special medicine if they are diabetic?

“Yes, some do. Sometimes they have to take it in a needle.”

5. What would you do if mommy was ever “sleeping” and you couldn’t wake me up?

“Make loud sounds, call Mom Mom, call 911 and tell Daddy.”

Wow, she is good, hahaha. At only 7 years old I have bored her with so much diabetic knowledge that she already has the basics down. I am proud of her! She said, “I want to teach my class about diabetes and take your glucometer and “medicine book” to show my classmates all about it”. How sweet.
