The short video clip shows a father, Phil Davis of Deltona smacking his small child in the mouth on national television as part of the recent Feb. 13. episode of Supernanny.

Apparently some viewers and officials with the state Department of Children & Families took issue with that treatment. The agency is investigating complaints of child abuse and neglect reported by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

DCF in its investigation is trying to make sure the family is receiving counseling, that the behavior seen on the show is not continuing and that the children are safe, Harrell said.

First of all, I see nothing wrong with a pop in the mouth now and again as punishment for certain behaviors. Recently with my kids having braces, my new latest threat to them is turning their lips to hamburger if they ever think their large attitude in a six-foot body is big enough to take mom on.

Let’s think about this for a minute – the father was being taped. Do you really think he would engage in abuse while being recorded? Furthermore, do you think it might have been included in the scenes to create drama and chaos to get people talking about the show?

Um Hello! It worked!

I’ll be interested in seeing how this one turns out – but from where I stand, he was just a dad doing his job to get a firm handle on his child. Let the days in which kids feared the strong hand of dad return. We’ve been under the timeout, negotiation, eagle eye watch far to long and look what it’s getting us! Kids need to have something to fear or they grow up being adults who don’t fear the justice system.

There’s been a great deal of discussion over the SuperNanny episode with The Walker family, primarily because of the breastfeeding issues.
For those of you who felt that Jo’s influence would cause problems afterwards, check out this little news bit.
The Walker family seems to be doing great! Mom and 17-month-old are doing well and everyone seems very happy.
Any questions?

Unsure of how to regain control she resorts to chasing them around the house trying to mete out discipline. Alice wants help to set boundaries… and Dad’s just looking for a good night’s sleep!

I don’t know about you, but I’m glad to see those running a daycare actually doing something proactive to help get their own family under control.

I can’t imagine placing my children in the hands of caregivers who haven’t a grip on their own situation first.

This should be a lesson to all daycare providers. I hope many will be tuning in.

How many of you absolutely fell in love with Jency Williams’ grandparents? I know I did! They reminded me so much of my own grandparents and how they simply commanded respect with their very presence.

I’m not sure where the father was and in these single parent episodes, one can only assume, but I hope for the sake of those children, dad, if able, plays an active role in the lives of his kids.

Ok, how many of you were thinking that Brian McAfee from a couple of weeks ago and Jency should be introduced? If nothing else, I think those two would make a great pair of friends to lean on.

What can I say, I’m the forever cupid at heart!

Regardless, I am so happy that Jency has her grandparents there. I think the morals and values they can introduce those children to are priceless. I certainly hope Jency’s kids are absorbing enough of what great grandma and grandpa have to teach, because so many smaller children don’t have such a wonderful luxury these days.

Having been there done that on the single mom thing, I’m very interested in seeing how Jo Jo handles this situation.

I know firsthand that single parents who rely heavily on other sources to help raise their children are bringing into the fold various styles of discipline that can and does confuse children.

I feel for Jency, that’s for sure!

On this weeks episode, Jo Jo visited The Goins family. The family consisted of Mom, Dad and three children with mom being pregnant with her fourth.Khalin, the eldest child presented the biggest challenge having been diagnosed with A.D.H.D. I was particularly interested in seeing how Super Nanny would deal with the unique daily challenges a child with this disorder presents. (A.D.H.D. discussion following this message)

I can’t imagine even trying to place myself in Karolee’s shoes. The poor woman has her hands so full and a complete male chauvinistic pig of a husband who offers up very little help if any at all. Frankly I’m surprised the family made it this long. I’d have kicked the self centered, self serving, selfish butt to the curb long ago. I can only hope that Mr. Goins has realized, with the help of Jo Jo, what a beautiful wife he has and just how easily he could lose her and his children.

Which brings up another peeve of mine – men who think when they clock out at work they are off for the rest of the day – and it’s ‘womens’ work to take care of the kids and home. But that’s another post for another blog

In the one hour of SuperNanny on Monday night, I learned so much more about A.D.H.D. then I had ever known. Thank God my family doesn’t have those struggles and God love those who do. I never realized just how challenging one child could be when dealing with this disorder.

I’ve grown very interested in the topic. In fact, I would like to learn more of what other mothers are doing to help combat the issue or deal with it every single day?

Karolee already has by sympathies! God love that mother of three and pregnant with number 4.
