Art Trends That Follow Current Events

Often art trends follow the current events of a country or the world. What topics are “hot” now that you can focus on?

Gardening, especially at the White House
Dogs/pets and the Portuguese water dog at the White House
Immigration and immigrants
Graduations
Weddings
Pirates
Taxes – I suppose I could do a page in my Page-a-Day Tea Book book on the recent TEA parties, protesting higher taxes, reminiscent of the Boston Tea Party of pre-Revolutionary War days.
Environmental topics

What can you do in the way of art projects to encompass current topics that could have appeal?

Will Obama Popularize Tea Drinking for Quilters?

 
We’ve often discussed tea drinking and tea parties here at Quilting and Patchwork.  Often quilters like a cup of tea while working or gathering with others.  Tea and tea parties was popular in my family when we visited one another.  My grandmother, with whom I made my first quilt, always had a cup of tea at 3 o’clock in the afternoon.
The word’s out that Obama drinks tea, particularly organic berry tea, rather than coffee.  So, the possibility that tea becomes an even more popular beverage looms before us.  What about tea parties?  More of these, too?

Tea Parties for Quilters and Hospitality

Time for Tea Parties 

Tea parties for hospitality were a tradition in my mom’s family.  So I continued these when she became ill with Alzheimer’s.  They also were highlights when my grandchildren and I visited her at the nursing home. 
Tea time when quilters meet is a fun tradition, too.  When I’ve visited my daughter’s quilting group, a cup of tea was part of the refreshments.
