Tea Parties for Quilters and Hospitality

Time for Tea Parties

Tea parties for hospitality were a tradition in my mom’s family.  So I continued these when she became ill with Alzheimer’s.  They also were highlights when my grandchildren and I visited her at the nursing home.
Tea time when quilters meet is a fun tradition, too.  When I’ve visited my daughter’s quilting group, a cup of tea was part of the refreshments.
If you enjoy tea parties, or simply a cup of tea and chat, you may like to browse my Tea Time News and Notes blog.  I’ve found that articles about tea and tea time I write for my Country Kitchen newspaper …read more

Tea Time at Quilting and Patchwork

QuiltingAndPatchwork.com
Tea time was a sign of hospitality in my family.  My grandmother, with whom I did my first quilting, always had a cup of tea at 3 PM in the afternooon.  Whenever I visited my mom, we’d enjoy tea and catch up on family affairs before we took care of any business.
Later when Mother, afflicted with Alzheimer’s, resided in a nursing home, my grandchildren and I enjoyed tea parties with her.  Even after she no longer could participate, she seemed to enjoy our company and the occasion.  These parties also created memories for the children.
So, I’m starting a Tea Time …read more

We have a winner in the Bloggy Giveaways Carnival here at Quilting and Patchwork.
Lindsie M’s name was selected by Random.org for a copy of the novel, Sarah’s Patchwork by Stephanie Grace Whitson.  Congratulations, Lindsie!
I want to thank everyone who entered and for sharing your experiences as a quilter, your heirloom quilts, and what you’d like to make if you aren’t a quilter.  I wish everyone could have won.
So many of you shared with me as though we were chatting over a cup of tea about our quilts and the ones handed down in our families.  I’m thinking of starting a “Cup of Tea …read more

Tea and Me and Quilting, too

I was browsing around the blogs at the b5media Lifestyles Channel.  Of course, I had to stop at Marye Audet’s Kettle & Cup, since I enjoy sitting down with a cup of tea, as well as trying different types of this brew.  Occasionally I’ll have a cup of coffee, too.
In a current blog, Marye talks about Tea and Books and mentions some of her favorite ones to read.  You might include your favorite quilting books within this mix.  Or consider a cup of tea as you contemplate quilting patterns or fabric art designs.
What is your favorite tea?  I like to …read more

Recording Your Quilting & Family Legacy

Quilters continue to respond to my posts about quilting, family times, and tea time rituals that bring back memories.  They also share stories of memories-in-progress as they gather with children for cooking, crafts, sewing and quilting, as I did with my grandmother and aunt.  We also created memories in my own home which span the generations.
Why not start writing down these memories and memories-in-the making?  These are part of your family legacy and should be saved!
If there is interest, I’ll make this a regular feature, where I share quilting memories and tell you about research I’m doing as I develop my Trails End …read more

Memories of Quilting and Tea With Grandma

QuiltingandPatchwork.com
When I reminisce about quilting with my grandmother at eight-years old, readers often write and share me their memories, too.  If you’re teaching your own children to sew, you’re creating memories and a family heritage for them.
My tea time post, Tea Breaks for Quilters, has brought back memories for other quilters and women who spent time with Grandma in their childhood.  Write these memories down so you can share them with your children, your neices and nephews, and other family members.  Otherwise they may be lost.
Share with us here at Quilting and Patchwork your quilting and tea time memories or …read more

Tea Breaks for Quilters

Quilters often enjoy tea breaks or a cup of tea while they’re working.  I like to try different types of tea and remember how my grandmother, who taught me to make quilts when I was eight-years old, enjoyed her tea break every afternoon.
Nanny would have her cup of tea while my aunts often sipped their coffee.  When I visited them at Trails End Farm, I looked forward to 3:00 when we stopped quilting, sewing, cooking, cleaning or other tasks and sat at the table with tea, coffee, milk and cookies while we laughed and chatted.
For Christmas this year, my daughter …read more
