Digital effects techniques

Technique Tuesday!

Another topic we visit pretty frequently here is different digital effects tips and tutorials (including those that mix physical and digital work).  So I thought that they should get compiled for future reference too!

Collage and quilt techniques

Technique Tuesday!
We’ve explored lots and lots of fun collage techniques over the years. I figured it was past time to compile some of the methods. This post doesn’t include all the techniques like image transfers and making background papers…those posts have been compiled elsewhere!

Making a crocheted book

Technique Tuesday!

I decided that I wanted to make a little accordian-style books with some of my background papers.  In particular, I wanted to use what was left from the pink and fushia monoprinted paper.  My first experiment didn’t work out too well, as you’ll see.  I used a 1/2 inch paper punch and crocheted the pages together with an oversized hook.  The crocheting went fine, but the holes were way too big!
My second attempt resorted to a standard office-style paper punch and a smaller hook.  Much better!  I trimmed the rectangles to get rid of the large holes, and cut …read more

Snow-themed art!

Technique Tuesday!
Apple in the Snow
I know that not everyone loves snow, but I do   Every snowstorm makes me grab my camera and head out, just as soon as I can without ruining it!  I recently realized how many times snow figures into my work, like the pieces above and below.  The links with the images below will take you to the tutorials explaining how to get that effect digitally.
So now I’d like to hear from you: do have snow-themed art that you’d like to share? I’ve got a few snow-loving artists lined up to share with you already, …read more
