Sore hands or wrists not necessarily from carpal tunnel

I have a nice office in my house, a nice big desk, a beautiful bay window, and a very comfortable chair. However, over the past two weeks, I’ve been working out of the kitchen or dining room because I needed the extra space of the tables there. Not a good idea. My left wrist is killing me now and I know that it’s because the set up was not good enough to use the laptop safely and properly.
