This to me is probably one of the most important things to look for if you are looking for a gym. Unless you have your own home gym or the space to accommodate one you will need to find a gym that suits you if you are serious about bodybuilding or just lifting weights. Arnold brings up some great points in the excerpt from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s New Encyclopedia Of Modern Bodybuilding.

The Return Of Arnold

No, not the real Arnold. Just me taking quotes of great workout information from his book The New Encyclopedia Of Modern Bodybuilding. So without further adieu…

When It Comes To The Lat Muscles,

Arnold Says…

Lat Low Pulley“The lats have two basic functions as far as bodybuilding is concerned: They pull the shoulder back (a rowing motion) and pull the shoulders down (a pulldown or chinning motion). A common mistake when doing these movements is to use too much biceps effort and not enough back, or to involve the muscles of the lower back in a swaying motion instead of making the lasts do most of the work. You have to make an effort when training lats to isolate them so that only these muscles are involved in the movement.”

arnolddeadlift.jpgOn Power Training, Arnold says…

“To shape and develope the body, it is necessary to do a lot of endurance training-that is, the appropriate number of sets and reps. But I also believe that, unless you include low-rep strngth trainin, you will never achieve the hardness and density necessary to create a truly first-class physique.”

arnold-squats1.gifThursday is usually the day I post the Arnold Says segment but I’m talking the day of from Healthandmen.com so today is the day. So without further delay…

Arnold says…

“I always liked to train 6 days a week, taking sunday off as a rest day. This made it easy for me to keep track of my workouts-Monday, a certain group of body parts; Tuesday, a different group, etc. f you’re on a different schedule you can do each of your workouts on whatever days they fall-just think of it as Workout #1 instead of Monday, Workout #2 instead of Tuesday, and so on through your entire training program.”

“Get to da choppa! Do it now!”…I’m just playing, I couldn’t help myself. Anyway,

Arnold Says…

“Not only are protein supplements a cost-effective means of increasing protein intake without significantly increasing dietary fat, they are also convenient, which is important since meal frequency is such a critical aspect of bodybuilding nutrition.”

arnold-749421.jpgThis weeks “Arnold Says…” comes out of October’s Muscle & Fitness magazine. I let someone borrow my Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding and had to go to this magazine as a last resort. In this segment Arnold talks about Dips.

“To emphasize the lower chest, the dip is a great alternative to decline presses. Place your hands wide apart and lean your torso forward to place most of the stress on your pectorals…when your hands are close together and you position your body as vertically as possible, you de-emphasize the pecs and transfer most of the stress to the triceps.”

To read the full article you need Octobers Muscle And Fitness magazine. Sorry folks, I don;t feel comfortable posting the entire article without permission.

arnold-749421.jpgOn  Learning The Use Advanced Training Principles:

“Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither was a first class bodybuilding physique. Creating a highly developed muscular body means starting out using the basics. Learning the necessary skills. developing strength and conditioning over time, and then gradually raising the level of training intensity, in part by learning to use Advanced Training Principles. ”

I’m starting something new. I think the title says it all. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a bodybuilding Icon with knowledge of bodybuilding and fitness to no end. So what I’ve decided to do here is share some of his wisdom. I hope there is no legality issue here because I feel no one should have to pay for this kind of knowledge.  Each week I’d like to share a brief statement from  Arnold’s New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding. This is an amazing book and if you ever get a chance to pick one up I highly suggest you do. I also Suggest Amazon.com where you can either get it new or used for a good price. Without Further Ado…

Arnold Says…Diet and nutrition are as important to controlling your body composition as is weight training. You have to eat right to gain, eat right to lose and eat right to get strong

The Body Builder’s Bible

bodybible.jpgArnold Schwarzenegger’s New Encyclopedia Of Modern Bodybuilding is the bodybuilders bible. Even if you’re even thinking about getting into shape, putting on mass or working your weak spots, this is the book that can be the foundation of it all.

You know the man, the legend, the “Governator”. Arnold, an icon of bodybuilding, filled this 5 pound book with everything you need to get started as a bodybuilder. I would Like to say it has everything you need to know about bodybuilding but that is never the case because everything is always changing.

From the history of the sport to nutrition and dieting, to training programs, exercises, everything. Arnold shows you how to get your weak spots and train every muscle in almost every possible way from old school routines to more modern ways.

I wish I had bought this a long time ago. I’ve done well for myself in the last 10 months, but if I had this from the beginning, I’m confident that I could be a lot farther along. You can pick this book up new for about 28 dollars but you can find it a bit cheaper new and used on amazon.com.
