Dear Tracee,
Standing on that stage tonight in front of 20,000 Democrats unified behind Senator Obama, I saw a bright future for America. I saw millions of people across the country working as one to elect the next Democratic President. I saw a new President and a new Congress giving a voice to the voiceless. Emily’s List – Come On Girls!

Remember the Boston Tea Party?
The tag line was No Taxation without Representation!

During women’s suffrage No Taxation without Representation! was a tagline also used to get women the vote.
Of course, men’s response back then was “you don’t work, you don’t pay taxes.”
Except that now 72% of us do work and all of us pay taxes.
But, America still ranks 71st in the world for female respresentation in our own government. That combines all levels from federal to local government. That’s pathetic.
Girls, Ladies, Women, Sisters – that’s taxation without representation. That’s unacceptable.

Add Women Change Everything!

 
O, The Oprah Magazine and The White House Project have joined together in a leadership training effort for women. They will be hosting Women Rule Leadership Training Program for 80 women with a vision June 20 – June 22 in New York City.
The stimulus has been this election season which has made clear that women are underrepresented in politics. Out of 50 (52?) states only 9 governors are women. We’ve fallen to 71st in the world according to female representation in political office. 71!
