I heard about this structure a while back and it’s really cool. The Institute’s designers and architects, Shuguang Zhang, Sloan Kulper and Audrey Roy; and architects at Tsinghua University, have created a vision that includes the basic human cell as the design focus and inspiration. Cellular Structure

Above is the proposed exterior and below is an interior shot. If you took biology in school, you’ll recognize the shapes and designs based on cellular components – which is so unique and really fun to see.

Being a science major in college, I’m way excited to see the finished results. The project is noted to be completed in 2009 – until then we wait.

What sort of structure will it be? Let’s see…

Strawberry structures! Here’s the deal. I’ve been sort of obsessing over the Strawberry Fields Forever cover by Ben Harper; for like a week. This is odd because:

I usually hate covers (I like maybe five – ten cover tunes period).
It’s not like I hadn’t heard this song before. I heard it when it first came out a LONG time ago. In fact, I really like [...]
Post from: Blisstree

Strawberry structures! Here’s the deal. I’ve been sort of obsessing over the Strawberry Fields Forever cover by Ben Harper; for like a week. This is odd because:

I usually hate covers (I like maybe five – ten cover tunes period).

It’s not like I hadn’t heard this song before. I heard it when it first came out a LONG time ago. In fact, I really like I Am Sam, the movie it comes from.

As far as Beatles tunes go, SFF rates fairly low on my list of favorites. I love the Beatles, but was never into this particular song one way or the other.

I have issues.

I figured this would make a good classic post though, so here we go; some offbeat classic strawberry structures…

To learn more about these strawberry structures, or to see even more fruity structures, visit the original Offbeat Homes post, Sweet Fruity Structures.

As an extra treat, here’s the album version of my song obsession, just in case you need to hear it. There are some live versions floating around too, but oddly, I don’t enjoy them.

In case you can’t tell, this little home was inspired by the VW Beetle, and has some eco-features too. It’s really hard to imagine how this looks on the inside. I have to hunt around for some interior images.

The entire World’s Wildest Architecture slideshow is worth seeing. They have a couple structures that I don’t think qualify as “wild” like the Guggenheim Museum – (still cool though). Overall though, it’s a great offbeat show with structures like Casa Batllo, the good old Haines Shoe House, Longaberger, and more.

Superuse.org is this great site that consists of (as you might think) recycled items made new again.
From Superuse.org:
“Superuse.org is an online community of designers, architects and everybody else who is interested in inventive ways of recycling. The site allows you to post items at various scales within the reuse-topic. All examples of small commodities, furniture, interiors, buildings and reuse on urban scale are welcomed. Next to exhibiting applications, we promote the development of knowledge on the subject by starting up discussions, adding historical background and allowing user comments.”

I’ve been spending a lot of time looking over the archives of Faces in Places, a stupendous blog. As you might imagine this blog searches out the weird of the weird when it comes to faces in, well, places you don’t expect. I love the idea and double love (as my boy would say) the whole blog. My son looked at all the cool faces for a good long while – and blogs mostly bore him.
Check out these two examples – I gravitated to the home posts (are you shocked) but couldn’t resist the bird photo.

I also really adore Straw hat, happy bag, Tick tock, and Zippy, and almost all the architecture posts are cool. The only problem is that now Cedar and I are looking everywhere for faces. Or, maybe that’s not such a bad deal.
