You won’t want to miss the Arts and Design Channel’s Showcase. The theme this month is Christmas in July, and it’s hosted by Tammy Powley at her Jewelry and Beading blog.

Here you’ll find many arts and crafty ideas for starting your holiday shopping and creating during Christmas in July season, thus getting a head start to avoid the last minute rush in December.

Quilting & Patchwork Participates in May Arts & Design Showcase

The Arts & Design Channel Showcase features a floral theme for May, with the participants designing and contributing projects that relate to springtime and flowers. Cyndi, of Layers Upon Layers, hosted the Showcase this month.

I wrote about flower quilts and art reminding me of quilting with my grandmother and the gardens at her Trails End Farm.

Flower Garden Inspired Quilts Remind Me of Grandmother

Quilts with a flower garden theme often remind me of my grandmother who taught me to make patchwork quilts. Then when I see the Grandmother’s Flower Garden design, I think of the lovely flowers that abounded in the yard of her farmhouse. We had flowers at our farm, but nothing compared with those at Trails End Farm.

I have photos of family gatherings. Somehow the background for many was the flowers that grew in their gardens.

(The Dresden Flower Graden book above also brings to mind the lovely dinnerware Nanny brought out for special meals we enjoyed around her dining table, the same table where she, my aunt, and a neighbor lady spread out quilts for tying.)

My daughter, Beth, has a tendency to create flower themes in her quilts and fabric art work. Below is a piece of fabric she painted using some new techniques. Of course, the resulting design resembled flowers and is one of my favorite pieces.

During this month of May, with flowers gathering into bloom, it seems appropriate that our theme at the Arts and Design channel is flowers, with Grandmother’s flowers and gardens coming to mind.

Bloggers in the b5media Arts and Design Channel participated in their Springtime Showcase today, with each writing something on their blog that had to do with this time of year. Chloe hosted the Showcase at her Tangled Thread blog.

Quilting and Patchwork joined the Showcase with Quilting in the Garden & Other Spring Thoughts.

Our b5media Arts & Design Channel features a Theme Day each month with all of the bloggers participating. This month our theme was “green”…for St. Patrick’s Day, spring, fresh ideas, and luck.

William Lehman, at Artist Hideout, did a great job of hosting and even came up with this photo. Check out his blog to see what it’s all about.

My green related post revolved around the Irish Chain quilt pattern.
