How Do Your Youngsters Handle Lightning?

A friend mentioned the thunderstorms in her area this summer and then reminisced about overcoming her fear when she was a child. She learned to have a healthy respect for lightning, from a safety viewpoint, but she didn’t panic every time a storm was predicted.
This brought back memories of my early fear of this natural phenomenon. (Remember this is Nature Theme Week in my Parenting posts, so lightning ties in!) However, Mother’s calmness and prayers, her explanation of how and why lightning occurs, gave me a sense of peace.

Preparing for Hurricanes & Other Storms

Now that hurricane season has begun, those living in storm prone areas will be making preparations for emergencies. If they have AD family members, there are extra precautions to be considered.
An article in Alzheimer’s Daily News, June 15 issue,(www.agelessdesign.com) gives details about these preparations with further reference to suggestions in the South Florida Sun Sentinel (www.sun-sentinel.com) edition for the same date, under the section, “The Help Team.”
Also, those living in thunderstorm areas will want to consider preparations in case the power is out for any length of time or if there is danger from tornadoes.
