Earlier this month we found out that a transgender woman named Jenna Talackova would be a finalist in the Miss Universe Canada pageant. The fact that she was accepted as a contestant raised several ethical and moral issues for some, but for others, it was a major win for equality. Transgender Travel Just Got a Little Safer: The State Department is helping transgender travelers by allowing them to change their passport without sexual reassignment surgery. Beginning Thursday, only a doctor’s note verifying gender transition treatment will be required. For transgender travelers, this means much safer travel in certain countries, where LGBT communities are at risk for harassment and discrimination. (via Blackbook)
