Whether you view alcoholism as a disease, an addiction, or both, there’s no doubting that alcholism needs treatment. We also know that the person who is struggling with alcohol wants to be helped before he or she can be helped.
The toughest part, most say, is by accepting the diagnosis – accepting that you have a problem with alcohol, that you are an alcoholic. Then, you need to decide what type of treatment you think you need. There’s no one-size-fits-all treatment for alcoholism. For some people, cold turkey works and remains successful, for others, it wouldn’t get them anywhere.
