It is very convenient and extremely quick. It is a way to have 24/7 access to educational and nutritional content. Have you ever thought about trying out a new food or recipe but didn’t because you had no idea the effect it would have on your bloodsugar? Now, you need not worry.

The Food Awareness Toolbar acts as your own food-search browser tool on your desktop — free of charge! It works just like a Google search, but for food data. All you have to do is click on the browser you use (either Internet Explorer or Firefox) to download and install the food-search browser tool to your computer. Then, any time you are curious about a food’s nutritional content, the answer is only keystrokes away.

The Joslin Diabetes center and Calorie King have teamed up to bring you this handy dandy tool. It was designed in order to promote food awareness, which we all know is vital in the treatment of diabetes. I am personally going to download it to offer an additional service to my diabetic readers. If you wish to have this tool at your disposal, check out Calorie King and download it for yourself. I really think that it is a great idea all around. And better yet, it’s free!

The clear winner: metformin, sold as Glucophage and generically for about $100 a year. It works as well as other diabetes pills but does not cause weight gain or too-low blood sugar, the analysis found. It also lowers LDL or bad cholesterol. Consumer Reports also published a guide of the results. Besides metformin, it rates glipizide and glimepiride, sold [...]
Post from: Blisstree

This is clearly great news for the many diabetic sufferers that struggle at the pharmacy counter. A much cheaper alternative that still has positive effects in the treatment of diabetes is both welcomed and coveted!

As I have mentioned in a previous post, spousal support is important in the treatment of diabetes. It helps when my husband takes the time to understand what type of food is “good” for me and tries to mimic my eating patterns.

Mental health plays into how all of as behave in our personal relationships. As I have mentioned in a previous post, spousal support is important in the treatment of diabetes. It helps when my husband takes the time to understand what type of food is “good” for me and tries to mimic my eating patterns.

I think it would be difficult if my hubby brought home a big ol’ greasy pepperoni pizza, breadsticks and cheesecake 3 times a week. How could any person in their right mind pass that meal up more than once?

A study under way at SUNY Upstate Medical University will examine whether patients with diabetes are better able to manage their chronic illness when their spouses or partners are actively involved in diabetes counseling and education programs.

Will a partner or spouses active role benefit the patient and be effective in the treatment of diabetes?

“For this study we will compare how diabetes outcomes are affected when both spouse or partner and patient are actively engaged in diabetes counseling as compared to working with the patient alone.”

I have a hunch that the results will reflect what I mentioned above. When my husband shows an interest in my health and supports and actively participates in my diet and exercise regimen, I am much more successful.

How do the think the research will pan out? Does it help with your treatment plan when your partner or spouse has an active part?
