Two healthier Halloween minded snacks for you today, the first is an icy Halloween smoothie that I found a long time ago in Fitness Magazine. The downside is that it wasn’t organic; but you can change up ANY recipe to make it organic so I did. The second treat is a pumpkin seed bar from Taste for Life (loved by birds and kids alike) and it’s a healthy way to use up some of those Halloween pumpkin seeds.
Halloween Smoothie:
1 cup organic canned pumpkin
1 cup organic milk (you can use soy, or another milk as well, it works fine)

Kids love to cook and they love to get sticky. Well, some kids. My son Cedar loves being tidy and wails against messiness – but that’s bizarre and a much longer story for another time. That said, if you’ve got one of those kids who doesn’t mind sticky fun, try out this recipe for tasty homemade organic fruit snacks on a lazy, rainy, weekend.

Treats for my cats always seem to be hit or miss. They’ll either gobble them up or be completely uninterested, as opposed to the dogs who’ll eat anything that hits the ground.
I’ve found that they love anything with a strong tuna smell and flavor. These fishball snacks are perfect for them, and the added bonus of some catnip makes it that much more appealing to them!

8 oz. can tuna in oil – drained
2 oz. cooked herring or other fatty fish – skin removed
3 baby carrots – boiled until tender, mashed
1 egg – beaten
3 T. grated cheese

The family loves donuts. And when the family loves something, I have to learn how to make ‘em instead of buying boxes from Krispy Kreme or at the grocery stores. I haven’t really dedicated myself in learning how to make the donuts like how the latter stores make it. As a matter of fact, I just accidentally came upon the easiest way to make donuts one day. Mini Donuts or Donut Holes (however you call it) to be exact.
When I told the husband and son not to grab another box of donuts a couple of weeks ago because I planned …read more

Before I give you the recipe, let me tell you a story. My nephew from Upstate NY is up here in NC to see my brother-in-law and his family. I found out at about noon today that we’re having a get together party. For 2 hours I couldn’t think of anything I could make for the party. It starts at 7pm. I knew that my dear sister-in-law will have all sorts of dips for chips and most probably finger foods. So I told my husband there is no point in making my own. He suggested potato salad. It’s not a …read more
