Leftover Turkey Treats for Your Dog

It’s the day after Thanksgiving and if you’re like us you’ve got a ton of cooked, leftover turkey in your fridge. If you’re also like us, over the next day or so you’ll be madly thinking up ways to use it up quickly without having to portion any up to put in the freezer.

Instead of serving your family turkey for the fourth or fifth night in a row, you can incorporate some of the white meat into treats for your dog. It’s easy, healthy and will use up some of the excess! Make sure you use just the white meat …read more

Turkey Treats for Dogs

Though we’re not the kind of dog owners that treat our dogs as little people (ie dressing them up or taking them places, etc), we do have fun trying to include them in our “in house” activities if we’re able to, like getting them a new chew toy or doll for the holidays, or making them a special treat on our “treat” holidays (Easter, Valentine’s, etc).

This includes a fun treat made from cooked, leftover turkey that’s perfect for the Thanksgiving weekend. Because we don’t have leftover turkey until after the holiday is over (and don’t want to spend anymore time …read more

What City Lies in Two Continents?

How do you go from Europe to Asia in a matter of minutes?  Visit Istanbul, Turkey, the only city in the world that is located on two continents.
The city is split by the Bosporus Strait, Europe on one side, Asia on the other.  There are a number of bridges cross the strait, and you can easily go from one continent to the other.
Istanbul is a huge city, however, and is both the capital city and the largest city in Turkey.  With all those people, and all that traffic, getting across the bridge from one side to the other may take …read more

Ski Turkey for Less

It’s not officially even fall yet, but for snow lovers it’s not too early to be thinking about this winter’s ski vacation.   And if you’re looking for a ski vacation destination that’s modern and exotic, but still has great prices, take a look at Turkey.  Yes, Turkey.  I thought of it only as a warm weather destination, but it offers some great skiing areas as well.
With altitudes on par with the Rockies or the Alps, Turkey offers a November through April snow season, with modern facilities for downhill skiing, cross country, heli-skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing.  The ski resorts offer everything …read more

Büyükada: Island without Cars

Today we have a guest post from Marianne Crone, a writer and resident of Amsterdam.

Büyükada smells of horses, kebab, grilled fish, and sea. I found this quiet island a stark contrast to crowded, noisy and polluted Istanbul. The only sounds were the mournful cries of the seagulls, the distant blast of the ferries, and the soft clip-clop of horses’ feet shod in rubber horseshoes.
Büyükada is an island without cars. True, there is the odd police car, the Coca Cola delivery truck and the garbage disposal vehicle, but there are no passenger cars. That’s the most wonderful thing about this …read more

Recipe: Turkey Egg Rolls

As I promised yesterday, here is the recipe to one of my family’s favorite meals: egg rolls!
These are so simple to make and though I don’t remember where the original recipe came from anymore, we’ve added enough tweaks over the years that we’ve got it memorized anyway.

Turkey Egg Rolls
1 pound ground turkey
4 cups shredded cabbage or coleslaw mix
2 Tb soy sauce
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp onion salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 package (24 sheets) egg roll wrappers (I use Azumaya brand)
Oil for frying
In a large skillet, cook turkey over medium heat until no longer pink, drain. Stir in the coleslaw …read more

Happy Turkey Day Everyone!

I just wanted to wish the readers of Dating Dames who celebrate this particular holiday! [I know it's a bit late. Heehee.]
I’m quite curious, though. Do people schedule dates on this occasion? Or is the day just reserved for family and friends? And if you do go out on a date on this day, does it mean you’ll be meeting important people in his or her life?
Hmmm.
Well, anyway — enjoy the pumpkin and turkey! Happy Thanksgiving!
