US Flag Day – Flag Etiquette

June 14 is Flag Day in the United States. This holiday, started in 1949, celebrates the adoption of the “Stars and Stripes” as the official flag on the United States on June 14, 1777.
Flag Day is marked by parades and by the displaying of the flag. Before you get yours out, brush up on your flag etiquette by reading the US Flag Code below:

The Story of Memorial Day

It’s difficult to believe that this weekend is Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start to the summer season. However, Memorial Day is much more than an occasion for cook-outs, ballgames, and family get-togethers.
Memorial Day began as “Decoration Day” on May 31, a day to honor the Union soldiers killed in the Civil War. The first Memorial Day observance was in 1866 in Waterloo, New York. I filed mine; did you? Suffice it to say that Tax Day is not a pleasant day for freelancers in the United States.
Do you ever wonder where those dollars are going? The Council for Contemporary Families offers these tax facts:
For every $100 in income tax you pay,

$32 goes to national defense
$19 goes towards interest on the national debt
$6 goes towards education, employment, and social services.
