Conversation hearts are a Valentine’s Day staple — but let’s be honest, store-bought candy hearts are kind of chalky and weird-tasting. They also contain gelatin, which is not only neither vegan nor vegetarian-friendly, it’s also a little icky when you know more about it. Even when Super Bowl ads offend us, they’re annoyingly good at making us crave junk food. (I guess that’s why they spend the big bucks). Some are worth resisting entirely–that Oreo’s ad was funny, but please don’t go buy a pack of Double-Stufs–but some ad-inspired cravings are possible to quell by eating something relatively healthy. Case in point: pizza. Whether you’re eating vegetarian for Meatless Monday, going gluten-free, or even going grain-free for a paleo diet, it’s possible to find healthy pizza recipes that suits your needs–and is delicious. Though soy cheese is a good occasional stand-in, we tried to find alternatives like homemade nut cheese and healthy ingredients that make your food taste cheesy, without using any actual dairy. More

By now you’ve finished off your holiday leftovers and New Year’s Eve champagne; it’s probably time to detox. But that doesn’t mean you have to cut calories or ditch drinking. You can easily improve your digestion, increase energy, and get your pre-holiday “glow” back without going on an extreme detox diet or juice cleanse. (In fact, for many of you, we recommend you don’t.) Laying off the party food, trying Meatless Monday, and making a few healthy recipes will yield vast improvements in your health. More

If the slate of vegan celebrities, cookbooks, restaurants, and chefs isn’t enough to push it over the tipping point, The Cooking Channel is doing their part to push veganism into the mainstream this Sunday, with their new show, “How To Live To 100.” Led by celebrity vegan chef, Jason Wrobel (whose Youtube videos are already a sensation online), the show could be more than just a resolution-helper for the temporarily healthy: It really is the first big cooking show to center around veganism–not weight loss or cutting calories with aspartame–and we’re hoping that it succeeds.
