Pan-fried zucchini flowers
I mentioned zucchini flowers last week, but for got to take a picture of them then, which gave me a perfect excuse to go back this week and buy some more. Of course if you are lucky enough to grow your own zucchini (or courgettes, for the British folks out there), you have a free source of these delicacies right in your own back yard.
There is little on this earth that tastes better than a pan-fried zucchini flower, at least in my experience. Luckily they are easy to make (finding the flowers is usually the hard part for me).
Improv vegan dinner: stir-fry, okra, and avocado carpaccio
I love opening up the refrigerator and spontaneously composing a meal from its contents. Inspired by Vincent’s delicious posts over at veganimprov, I decided to blog about the other night’s dinner creations. It wasn’t particularly fancy, but it was a yummy, healthy meal enjoyed by all.
We started by marinating some tofu in soy sauce, sushi vinegar, grated ginger, and crushed garlic.
Mmmmmm…. sausage
Boca Meatless Italian Sausages used to be one of my favorite fake meats when I lived in the US, so they were among the first things I picked up at the grocery store on this trip.
I sauteed a couple of the sausages with onion, garlic, bell pepper, tomatoes, and spinach. It was yummy, but the sausages were a lot saltier than I remembered them to be. Veggie Chic, the book
So as it happens, Veggie Chic is not only the name of my blog, but also the name of a completely unrelated new book by Rose Elliot, author of several previous vegetarian cookbooks including Vegan Feasts and Vegetarian Christmas.
Veggie Chic the book promises to revamp the way you see vegetarian food, with exciting, exotic recipes with names like Tea-smoked Chestnut Risotto or Grilled Plantain Cubes with Coconut Pesto.
I have to admit, some of these recipes sound pretty tantalizing, although more complicated than the stuff I usually make at home. Unfortunately Amazon doesn’t have any reviews up for the book yet. …read more
