The South Lawn of the White House

Visitors to Washington, DC have a good reason to swing by the South Lawn of the White House.

Not only is the South Lawn picturesque, it also features Michelle Obama’s vegetable garden. The veggie garden, viewable from the sidewalk, is the first at the White House since World War II when Eleanor Roosevelt had a victory garden.

While rumors have flown about the garden having unsafe levels of lead, the New York Times reports that the levels are now very low at only 14 parts per million.

As Michelle Obama surrounds herself with her daughters and school children to prepare a White House Kitchen Garden, other parents may see the advantages of a family garden.  You’ll raise food for better nourishment and hopefully to save on your budget.
