The City of Ember to the Screen
The City of Ember is the only light in a dark, dark world. But, when the light starts to dim because the power starts to fade it’s up to just two children to try to save the city.
There is more to the The City of Ember (The First Book of Ember) than just the darkness. Deep beneath the city is a history that is ignored, there are things like death that have no meaning, much like that in the The Giver.
Ember comes to the screen October 10, 2008. Read the book BEFORE you see the movie!

It’s Seuss month!
While Dr. Seuss was all about children’s books, many of his works have been adapted to the big screen.
The first cartoon adaptation was in 1942 for Horton Hatches the Egg. It was animated at Warner Brothers, which is of course, still around today. The short was directed by Robert Clampett, who is best known for his work with the popular Looney Tunes series.
Here’s the original cartoon:
(Viewer warning: Although the short was intended for children, there are some scenes which might not be appropriate for small children including a brief episode of a fish committing suicide by gunfire.)

Following up on my post about putting the kibosh on poop talk for the Little Mole books, I found this great video of the German version of Vom kleinen Maulwurf, der wissen wolte, wer ihm auf den Kopf gemacht hat. Even if you don’t know German (I know very little), you’ll get the gist:
