This video comes from Hungary, and features an actual dog obedience school’s presentation group putting on a performance for the holidays!

These very well-trained (and cute!) dogs decorate a Christmas tree, complete with ornaments, glass balls, tinsel and even the presents before plopping down from exhaustion. That’s about how I feel after a day of decorating, too!

Unless your dogs are this well-trained, it’s probably best not to let them chomp down on the glass balls, though — ouch! Check out some other holiday pet safety tips.

This video of a surprised kitten has been making the rounds like crazy, and it’s easy to see why! If your day needs a little brightening, just hit play:
In the video, the little grey and white kitten is getting tickled (and trying for some finger nibbles), but when the tickler throws her hand up, the kitten, surprised, follows suit.
There’s no way I could get our resident foster kittens to follow suit on this one, they’re much more interested in remaining upright and ready to pounce, as opposed to lounging on their backs getting tickles. Oh well!

Now, I’ve always liked the idea of having a lizard or snake as a pet, but I know they wouldn’t be a good fit for our family. I know that the bigger a snake gets, the bigger their meals need to get, and though I’m not squeamish about feeding them what they need (my first job at a pet store involved culling baby mice to feed to the snake population) and I don’t take offense to the circle of life and all that, I do know that it’s just not feasible for us to have to be running down to the pet store every so often for a fresh supply, and I don’t like the thought of keeping any in the freezer, either!

Feeding issues aside, there are some animals that just don’t make great pets, period, especially beginner pets for kids (experienced adults are on their own ). The video above from CBS talks about some of these pets, and how people buy them thinking they’re so cute and small, but get a big surprise within a short time!

Mental Floss has a few more videos of dogs greeting their returning soldiers (all of them equally aww-worthy, though I admit the one at the very end with the soldiers and their kids really did me in!), and I dare you to watch without a tissue nearby!

This cute video, taken by Pablo and Ramsey’s owner Chad, shows “playtime” between the two dogs. I find it especially funny because I’ve seen my own two Chihuahuas acting like this, and what makes it cuter to us is that they both know the other is messing around.

In the video, Pablo baits the very patient Ramsey with the toy, all the while doing what we call The Very Vicious Growl. Ramsey very carefully inches closer and closer to the toy while Pablo keeps a close eye on the progress, leading to louder growls and bigger head jerks.

When Ramsey pretends to lose interest, Pablo shoves the toy back into his face before yanking it back again.

Pablo and Ramsey have their own blog (though it appears to be neglected), as well as a Facebook fan page.

94 year old great-grandmother Clara has been videotaped by her grandson as she prepares meals that she and her family ate during the Great Depression. In an attempt to capture not only the recipes and the methods of preparation but Clara’s stories and memories of the time, she and her grandson have created quite an archive of precious videos!

I’ve previously written about several, including Sicilian Fig Cookies parts one and two, Depression breakfast, dandelion salad, pasta with peas, and poorman’s meal.

In the video above, Clara prepares Eggplant Parmesan, though she says right off the bat that she actually makes it with Romano cheese instead of Parmesan, but that it still tastes the same! She recounts how eggplant was cheap and easy to prepare, but that even if something cost a little more it just meant they had less of it.

She begins by cutting the eggplant into slices about 1/4″ to 1/2″ slices before shallow frying them in some oil in a pan until they turn crispy and brown. When the eggplant is done frying, drain them on paper towels to get rid of the excess cooking oil.

She then puts some homemade sauce over each slice of eggplant and sprinkles with some Romano (or Parmesan!) cheese. She recommends letting them sit for just a bit to cool down enough to eat. Since her family grew the eggplant themselves and served it with dandelion salad, she says the meal was virtually free. I love easy recipes like this that don’t require any kind of recipe, and this would be great with a slice of crusty bread on the side, too!
