This Terrifying Study Will Convince You To Research Your Tap Water

I’ve always been a tap water drinker. Unless of course I’m visiting my parents or my in-laws, then I’m a well water drinker. It’s what I always drank growing up and it’s what I’ve always assumed that my daughter would drink. Then, I had to see this terrifying study about the disinfectants used in some tap water. Now, I feel like I have to reevaluate my approach, or at least do a little more research. More »

If you’ve ever taken a survival class, or just spent a long day in the sun, you know that you can live far longer without food (and sex and beauty products and weight loss) than water. But Jessica Yu, award-winning filmmaker and director of the new film Last Call at the Oasis, says we’re overlooking serious health issues by ignoring the water crisis. More »

What’s Wrong With This Photo Of Mila Kunis At The Marine Corps Ball?

What's Wrong With This Photo Of Mila Kunis At The Marine Corps Ball?

Yesterday, TheGloss gave Mila Kunis props for attending the Marine Corps Ball, posted with the picture above. The event is something we can definitely get behind; as is the attendance of celebs like Kunis. But their use of plastic water bottles isn’t: The bottles don’t just look out of place at a black tie event, they’re also extremely wasteful. (Because, if you’ve ever been to an event like this, you know: Most people unscrew the top and take a couple of sips, not only wasting the bottle, but most of the water itself.) And with the holiday season coming up, we’re guessing they’re not the only ones who’ll be handing out bottles of water to guests. More »

With all the talk about how bad bottled water is for the earth, you’re probably sipping exclusively from a Nalgene—or consumed with guilt every time you buy a bottle of SmartWater. Organic Water: The Newest Health Hoax To Hit The Market

Organic Water: The Newest Health Hoax To Hit The Market

You may have heard by now that bottled water is a waste of money and natural resources. For instance, one-third of bottled water comes from the tap (not pristine rainforests or natural geysers), and it costs 2,000 times as much as tap water. And it takes the same amount of oil and energy resources to supply a year’s worth of bottled water in the U.S. as it does to fuel one million cars. As if that wasn’t enough, now there’s a new waste when it comes to bottling our earth’s most precious resource: organic water. More »

Staying Hydrated While Flying

Staying Hydrated While Flying

Dehydration is a common problem for passengers when flying, due to the lack of humidity in the air within the plane. Besides the uncomfortable thirsty feeling dehydration brings, it can increase your feelings of travel fatigue and your risk of catching a cold.

1Above is a new product billing itself as “the world’s first aerotonic flight beverage.” In non-marketing speak, that means “drink to keep you hydrated while flying” (seriously, aerotonic is not even a real word, guys). The New Zealand-based company claims 1Above will deliver “electrolyte-enhanced hypotonic hydration, GRAPELO (a unique blend of circulation-supporting polyphenol extracts like those found in red wine), and essential daily nutrients.” More »

Water: The Best Energy Drink Flows Freely From The Tap

Water: The Best Energy Drink Flows Freely From The Tap

The journal Pediatrics has published a new study, lead by Dr. Holly Benjamin of The American Academy of Pediatrics, which says energy drinks loaded with extra sugar and caffeine could prove harmful for adolescents. Brands like Mountain Dew, Red Bull, and Spike Shooter could not only cause heart rhythms, and contribute to the growing obesity epidemic, but also interact with ADHD medications, possibly leading to seizures. Many adults enjoy energy drinks during heavy athletic training, but Dr. Benjamin explains that for growing children who lead more sedentary lifestyles (and playing Xbox all day long would qualify there), parents are advised to keep the drinks that give you wings away from the kids. If I may be controversial for a moment (because I never do that…*cough), I think all energy drinks, from Red Bull to Gatorade, are a waste of money. Nature provides the best energy drink available, and it’s practically free with a turn of the faucet. More »
