My outfit is looking amazing… but since my fiance reads my blogs – you guys need to wait until after the wedding to see photos!

I’ve got my test skirt done.
I’m one happy camper!
No, I’m sorry you can’t see it quite yet. I still need to iron it… and hem it… and finish stitching the waistband on
Other than that it looks great!
I used an irridescent smoke-grey taffeta, kind of like this:
Just less crinkly. Or at least it will be once I press it.
I got the taffeta on an amazing clearance sale. It was normally $20 a yard… I got it for $2 per yard What can I say… it pays to check sales!

I’ve had a productive day… I just haven’t taken any photos of the progress on my outfit (my bad!)
I washed the silk today, on gentle, on cold, in my washing machine. It’s not something I’d recommend (if only because the fabric manufacturers don’t recommend it!) But I spent my early twenties working in a fabric store and that’s left me with a mild allergy to fabric sizing. It’s pretty mild, I start sneezing and can get a rash if I’m not careful… I just didn’t want to spend my wedding day sneezing and scratching

tip of the day – making muslins to fit clothing

I’m just starting on sewing my wedding dress (which is good – because I only have a month left to sew it ) and want to make sure everything fits perfectly!
To help me fit it, I’m creating two sets of dresses. The first one is called a muslin, (but it doesn’t have to be made out of muslin!) which is basically the same pattern, out of a cheap fabric. It’s important to use fabric with the same texture & weight as your good fabric!
I know, you don’t want to go to the hassle of making two garments…
