That said, when we are NOT invited to a wedding we really feel like we should have been invited to…what is our recourse?

Without going into a long and winding tale, an old friend of mine is getting married next month – a friend who as soon as he got into this current relationship, basically began to ONLY spend time with his girlfriend, and disappeared off the radar. So, to that end, we’ve hardly spoken in a year…but before that, would talk all the time, and never had a falling out or any complications of any sort.

All our mutual friends are invited to the wedding. Every last one. And so, my not being invited feels almost like an exclusion, more than simply a matter of numbers.

The wedding will be really small, it’s to be a brunch held in the garden of a nearby restaurant, and so, numbers are limited, to be sure. The mutual friends are closer – my best friend is also friends with the bride, and the other friends have known him longer and better.

I may not have a leg to stand on, and in fact, I realize I have no right to complain – but I still feel just sad! Like it’s high school again, and I was the only one not invited to the cool afterprom party.

Alas.

Where’s My Invite?

Recently, Date.com, Matchmaker.com, and Amor.com, teamed up to poll their members to see who would be willing to give marriage a second chance after a divorce.

Check out the results, when asked if they would remarry after a divorce:

Men

Yes 65.4%
No 23.1%
Only if adoption of children are involved 7.7%
Only if the couple is younger than 55 3.8%

Women

No 40.6%
Yes 28.1%
Only if the couple is younger than 55 18.8%
Only if adoption of children are involved 15.6%

There’s definitely a disparity between the sexes! One that, quite honestly, I didn’t see coming! What do you all think about these results?

Men are More Likely to Remarry

A couple examples of keeping expenses down are my daughter’s and my weddings.  Perhaps you have some other tips to contribute.

Neither my daughter nor I had the traditional floral arrangements and bouquets for our weddings.  I had natural flowers and my daughter silk ones.  For both of us, the cost wasn’t exorbitant.

For my wedding, my mom purchased a mass of flowers from a local florist.  My mother-in-law-to-be made the bouquet for my aunt (who was my attendant), corsages for the mothers and two other aunts, boutonnieres for the men, and a floral arrangement that encompassed the small white Bible I carried.  She also made up vases of flowers for the luncheon tables.  The reception took place in the yard of my parents’ home.

Our daughter was married 600 miles away from our home, so there wasn’t a great deal I could do personally for the wedding.  I took care of the flowers and arranged for a local silk flower artist to make up the bouquets for the bride and bridesmaid, corsages for the moms, one grandmother and aunt, and boutonnieres for the men.  These arrangements were lovely and looked like real flowers.

You can order the traditional flowers for weddings or look to your or someone else’s talent for creating artistic arrangements.  If you plan well, you can keep your special event flowers within a reasonable budget.

Flowers for Weddings & Special Times

Wow. I bet a lot of the day was spent waiting in line.

We’ve got a touch of Olympic fever, here at my house. We’ve stayed up late every night so far, but our viewing habits will have to change shortly as we are back to school in 2 more days. That includes me, as I’m an aide at our local elementary school.

Do you know of any Olympic athlete couples? I’ve been doing some research and haven’t heard of any for the 2008 Olympics games. If you know of any, please share in the comments. Thanks.
