It’s a furniture piece – really. And it’s named after a sea creature. Hint: it would go in your kooky living room. Ok, or maybe a bedroom. Oh, and it’s made from recycled something…

We’ve seen swooping, curvy, furniture here before, but the pieces from Dust really pack a punch. Great colors and shapes.

All of the above are via Dust, and trust me you want to go see the rest of their gallery. They have a clock that’s extra sweet, plus mirrors, and more.

Which is your favorite? You know, I don’t like dogs, but that stool is so slick, that it might just be my favorite today.

6,400 nickels.
Johnny Swing, sculpture, welder, and all around imaginative guy, welded the couch out of nickels after finding the penny medium tough to crack – although, he did eventually sculpt a penny chair as well. It took 300 hours and weighs 125 pounds.
He also has an intriguing, and strangely beautiful, baby food jar chair (96 jars were used):

The recycling aspects of art like Swing’s is incredible when you think about it. This is reuse at one of it’s finest hours if you ask me.

I love eco-artware. I swear they always have something you can fall for. Today I saw something I missed back in the day; an archive item, but spectacular.

Can you tell what it’s made of? If you can guess tell me in the comments. You could just go look, and then leave a comment, but that’s so karma damaging, that I just won’t know what to do with you.

It’s been a while since we’ve had some good old funky furniture. I’ve been saving some good ones up too.

By the way, I thought it was made out of something else – not what it really is.

Hey, there is a genius in the house today… his name is David Delthony. I’m not sure what else to say but genius. Maybe I’ll say it a few more times - genius genius genius! Just look at what he does to wood:

And then he does this…

Holy genius, right. A nicely folded over wooden desk – he calls it the “clam” – funny. You can order items from his site; where, by the way, he has many more treats for you to see. Amazing stuff. His wife and him, have a studio/workshop deal in Utah. Next time I go through Utah, I’m stopping. (I actually go through Utah a lot – not sure how that happens).

Bookshelf:

The blogger / architect student, who runs the site Weirdomatic, has an entire collection of weird bookcases – none of which I’d ever seen. So that was great. You have to see, there are maybe ten others.

My favorite find, possibly of the year so far, are these:

Scrabble seating! My sister would die. She’s a total Scrabble freak. How cool. This is at one of my fave sites freshome. There are more pics, including close-ups at freshome.

Don’t forget to tell me what that first couch is made of.

People don’t go visiting so much nowadays. At the risk of sounding 80 years old, when I was a kid we went a visiting the neighbors. Often even.

People don’t go visiting so much nowadays. At the risk of sounding 80 years old, when I was a kid we went a visiting the neighbors. Often even. People had their neighbors over, they had tea (or even better coffee), talked, threw burnt orange Tupperware parties, and made colored popcorn balls. Or, was that just my 70s childhood?

Now we stay home. I think we need to draw the neighbors in. You can do that with an offbeat house for sure. Another way is to consider your interior. Is it inviting? Quirky enough to keep people mesmerized? Does your furniture say , “You better come sit down or else?”

These pieces do:

Well, as you can clearly see this piece is from vitra. A company I love for their vivid interior and exterior design visions. This Marshmellow Sofa is from an older line but they have some slick newish pieces out as well. Like the Ravioli Chair:

Oooo, handy. Don’t know that I like the white of this Bibliochaise, featured at good old Treehugger, but still there is the useful factor.

This Road Tested Chair from the always neat Oddpodz, does actually say something.

You can always serve wine at the bar on your new Circle Stools also available at Oddpodz (Some people don’t drink tea).

Lastly, you could entice people with your environmental consideration. “I only own cardboard furniture” is always a good opener.

This unique chair is from the from ever amazing architect and designer Frank O Gehry.

That was fresh. I don’t think we look at enough offbeat interior items. Your offbeat home is not much good with the boring stuff inside.

Which chair is your favorite. Notice that today I refrained from mentioning my favorite. It’s a whole mystery deal I’m working on.
