In 1848 the First Woman’s Right Convention was held in Seneca Falls, New York, as five women organized a meeting to protest the laws and customs that discriminated against women. Thus began the crusade for equality and suffrage. While those determined, courageous women are long gone, a visit to Seneca Falls today will still allow you to come face to face with their images at the Women’s Rights National Park.

On Being Young, Female & Paralyzed

Danine Spencer, who writes on Women’s Rights at change.org, recently highlighted a documentary about a lively young woman who’s paralyzed, Cody Unser.
Though now recovered, Danine can relate to Cody’s story. She too was once paralyzed and noticed something: There aren’t as many young females with spinal cord injuries or diseases that cause paralysis. Danine quotes research from the Reeve Foundation: only 46% of paralyzed people are women, and just 39% experienced a spinal cord injury. Plus, people under 40 account for only 19.4% of people with paralysis.

International Women’s Day Is March 8

In case you’ve never heard of International Women’s Day (IWD), the video above can clue you in. Or you can just keep reading. In some areas, people celebrate IWD just like Mother’s Day with gifts or flowers. And the holiday has been around since the early 1900s.
