I’ve said again and again that workout clothes make me want to get active, and I’m really not exaggerating. Case in point: I went to Danskin today to check out what they have to offer, and saw lots of new styles. I instantly got excited, zipped around the site thinking how awesome I would look at the gym, and ran down the boardwalk later on. If you ever need inspiration, I swear you need to shop for something, be it bouncy new sneaks, a tech-y rain slicker for running, or a pair of Danskin yoga pants.
If you’re an enthusiastic workout gal or a gadget-driven guy, something simple might jump-start your day.

Here are some practical reasons to shop for new workout gear:

1. Sweat wicking fabric is king. Honestly, if you’re a “dripper” at the gym, this will save you trouble of mopping up sweat and the semi-embarrassment of looking like you’re melting (me!).

2. Little additions can protect you. Running shoes with awesome shocks and arch support can save you a serious foot problem down the line.

3. You don’t need to worry. If you’re a girl, you’re going to be happy when you don’t need to layer lots of supportive gear.

4. Odor-killing. If you don’t want to smell funky after your workout, then stock up on new odor-supressing fabrics.

Check ‘em out here! They even have extended sizes.

From everyone I heard from these are great and allow you to keep up with the poses without slipping and worrying about your mat getting dirty. Has anyone tried this? Tell me what you think please.

I have not been disappointed yet. I have hiked in these and I routinely get them wet at the beach and the park. We spent a grueling 12 hour day at an outdoor festival and man oh man did these do the job. They are breathable and provide great support. I wouldn’t suggest running in them but I have had to do some quick sprints with no problem. They are definitely the best active sandals I have ever tried. You can’t keep moving and burning calories when your feet hurt, now can you.

Did anyone happen to catch the Today show this morning? I was only semi-conscious but I saw Meridith Viera talking to some fitness guy about jump roping. He went through a few different types of jump ropes and how jumping for ten minutes is equivalent to running an 8-minute mile. I wish I could find an excerpt. When I do I’ll post a link.

Just another confirmation that jump roping is the wave of the future. Maybe not but it is a convenient and cheap way to get some exercise. The only drawback is obviously that it’s very high impact. I also came across this invention for a cordless jump rope. It actually looks like a great idea for small spaces, maybe an office or dorm room. Of course you could always just jump but I guess I would feel silly doing that. Sillier than using a cordless jump rope? No, but hey the point is that there are options.

The search hasn’t been easy, but I’ve found something that I’m going to be sticking to for some time now: Always for Me Workout Gear.

Trying out their exercise pants was the best treat of all. I’ve always had a lot of tees that fit reasonably well (although they might be printed with the most ridiculous of sayings), but trousers are a huge problem. Buy them plus, and have them hang in the center inseam crotch area, or try to squeeze into regular workout pants and have them be absolutely, positively uncomfortable and possibly just a little see-through as well.

Problem solved! I tried the Yoga Pants, which are available in generous sizes up to 6X. Hurrah! Finally something that’s pretty loose without being baggy, and available in a thicker material that’s deep, dark black– not that yucky sweatpant material that fades after a couple of washes.

I took these trousers out to the gym, and I can certainly recommend them for a woman who prefers their trousers a little on the looser side for serious stretching, weights activities, and cardio like the elliptical. If you’re going to be wearing these for high-impact stuff, I definitely recommend pulling on tight spandex boyshorts or bike shorts underneath to kill the bounce/shake.

Do you have any favorite brands for workout gear? Do tell.
