For getting (and staying) in shape there is no better exercise than walking. It’s easy on the joints, you don’t need special equipment, and you can do it anywhere. You can even do it in the comfort of your home with some of the walking DVDs that are on the market.
To show you just how easy it is to walk for your health, the American Heart Association has started a National Start! Walking Day. The day is April 8th, and you are encouraged to participate!

The movement has a website with loads of great information on getting your coworkers involved as well. Wouldn’t it be great to go for a walk at lunch instead of sit and complain about your job? You don’t need a lot of time to do this, either. The site says that ” just 10 minutes three times a day to walk will help you live longer. In fact, studies show that just one hour of vigorous exercise will increase your life expectancy by two hours.”

Why not commit to a healthier lifestyle and join others who want to do the same? Mark your calendar for April 8th, and encourage everyone you know to do the same.

This month’s theme day at the Science and Health Channel is men’s health. Gloria over at Cancer Commentary was gracious enough to host it.

I am writing this post amongst my excitement for the LPGA Championship that is right in my backyard. Yup, up the street at Bulle Rock the ladies will chase that little white ball around. Yes, I appreciate and play golf, even though I know that most golfers my age are men. It is great exercise and a bit like meditation, don’t you think?

How many of you men out there play on a regular basis? I bet the answer is a heck of a lot of you! Do you ride in a cart or walk the course?

Do you know that the average golf course is 6500-7000 yards. That would be just under 4 miles. I think that is a good cardiac workout, don’t you?

We all know that heart health means exercise and good nutrition. Make a deal with yourself this season, walk at least 75% of your rounds.

So yes men, I am giving you permission to get out on the course at least 2 times a week. Do not tell your wives I wrote this! My hubby will laugh when he sees this, he only plays once a week.
