World Breastfeeding Week

August 1 through 7 marks World Breastfeeding Week. The week celebrates the signing of the Innocenti Declaration, produced in 1990 by WHO/UNICEF to promote, protect and support breastfeeding.
The declaration recommends that infants should be nourished exclusively on breastmilk until 4 to 6 months of age. After that, they recommend that children continue to be breastfed while receiving complementary foods, for up to two years of age or beyond.

Do You Know Your Breastfeeding Laws?

Yes, many US states have breastfeeding laws. Do you know your state’s law?
In Maryland, a person may not restrict or limit the right of a mother to breastfeed her child. There’s also no sales tax in Maryland on breastfeeding supplies like pumps.

In Tennessee, a woman may breastfeed in public with a child who is under 12 months of age. If the child breastfeeding in public is more than 12 months old, the mother could possibly be charged with indecent exposure.
