Noreen from Hankering For Yarn just got back from a trip and shared her “must bring ” projects that she can knit, crochet (or tat, or weave…) while on the road.
I’ve inherited that need to craft too, so when I’m traveling, I absolutely must have a bundle of pre-cut yo-yo circles, needle and thread so I can merrily “yo” along while my DH drives
I love the portability and “instant gratification” of ending up with a bag of finished yo-yos at the end of the drive. I can tuck everything I need into my purse and not have to …read more

I recently posted a tutorial on how to create a basic yo-yo circle without any extra gadgets… and got a few questions on what to do with the yo-yos after they’re finished.

You could make yo-yo brooches or pins (or a poppy pin for Remembrance Day:

I got a reader request on how to make basic yo-yo circles. They’re a technique I’ve mentioned quite a bit here, but I had forgotten to actually write a complete how-to for you all!
Yes, yo-yos are fun and easy and no, you don’t need any fancy plastic tools to make them
Am I obsessed with yo-yos? Oh yes…
I’ve got the complete tutorial here, or just click on the photo

Okay, so you got your supplies together? I asked nicely yesterday
Here’s what I’m using – quilting cottons in shades of green & rust, with coordinating ribbon.
You need to cut out a dozen or more yo-yo circles. I’m using a 3″ circle here – you can see how small they get when they’re sewn & gathered. Just remember to use a fairly long running stitch to stitch around the outside – it makes it so much easier to gather them. I made 2 or 3 yo-yos out of several different fabrics.
Take one of the ribbons and wrap it snuggly …read more
