After six months of living with our family, Greg moved back to his Mom’s house on Sunday.

They arrived when I was making dinner, packed his stuff up, and left. I had no idea he was leaving that day – Bay didn’t say a word. I knew that he was going to leave this Summer, but not when. Later, she told me that they were also broken-up. I’m not sure where they stand now. I don’t want to push her – she will talk to me about it when she feels up to it.

Bailey is doing pretty good. She can’t talk about it, but she’s not crying all day, so that’s a good sign. She’s talking about looking for a job and has plans to go hang out with her friend, Sarah.

I don’t know how Greg is doing. She’s spoken to him. He was okay when he left.

Our house is so quiet without Greg’s rumbley voice. I miss hearing the kids laughing in Bay’s room. He’s a good kid. I wish him the best, but right now, it feels like he broke up with all of us. Sarah and I miss him a lot. Kitty is pretty lost.

Break-ups suck. Plain and simple. I’ve been both the break-up-er and the break-up-ee. Neither feels good, both carry a large helping of pain and guilt. I hope that the kids are able to figure this out.

In the meantime, they can do some thinking, spend some time with their friends. They’ve been pretty much in each other’s pocket for awhile. They could use a little wiggle-room, a little growing up time. They are very young and this could actually be a good thing.

I just want my daughter to be happy.

My teenagers – Bailey and her boyfriend, Greg - are already bored with Summer Vacation. Their break began on Friday, it’s now Sunday evening.

They are actually saying “I’m bored,” I’m not just guessing here. Bay and Greg need to find some activities, some things to do with kids their own age, because while having a board game tournament is a fun idea, it does lead to statements like, “It’s just an &^%$in’ board game, Greg!”

So far, I’ve suggested calling friends for a sleepover, but “everyone” is either out of town or sick.

Taking a walk, also not met with much enthusiasm. They feel that if you are taking a walk, there better be some sort of purchase at the end of it. So there have been a couple of walks to the 7-Eleven.

What happened to a hand-in-hand walk under the stars? Kids are so focused on consuming anymore.

Does anyone have any ideas for this young couple? They’ve already tried swimming, movies, board games, and looking for a Summer job.

What else is there for a teenager? Please, I’m begging you here….

My teenagers went to the prom this weekend. They were very stressed out in the days leading up to the prom – lots of yelling at each other and me. The prom can mean a lot of pressure with expensive clothes, expensive plans, expensive after-plans.

I kept trying to remind them, “It’s really just about the two of you spending time together,” but they didn’t buy that idea at all. They’d nod and act like they were listening, but I could see that the wheels were spinning and Bay was still thinking, okay, how can I afford to get a french manicure on my toes in addition to tanning, acrylic nails, and an updo…….

At one point, they called me from the restaurant (Tres Hombres) to say that Greg had forgotten the tickets (also something they forgot – corsage and buttonaire). I drove the tickets down and met them at Chuckie Cheese. I loved the idea that they stopped by Chuckie Cheese in their finery. I can’t remember how many birthday parties I attending in that (overwhelming) venue. I imagine the visit was bittersweet with that combination not-kid/not-yet-adult feeling.

They came home yesterday and slept all day long, finally making it out to the living room in the evening. Lots of fun and now everything is back to normal again. Which means they are either laughing or bickering.

Young love.
