Want to reuse some stuff around your house and provide some nesting materials for birds?
Hester from Fun In the Making sent me this recycled craft project. It’s a bird nester — “like a bird feeder, but contains nesting materials.” You can get the instructions and materials list to make this DIY recycled creation at Hester’s how-to post.
You may be wondering what the experts recommend for bird nesting materials. Ah, I thought so! Some of the suggested materials below surprised me a bit. I didn’t realize that birds used human hair to build nests.

Ever wonder what security envelope patterns from countries around the world look like?
Joseph King’s ongoing flickr project aims to enlighten you.
He’s got a nice collection going, 122 strong. And they are rather fascinating — everything from birds, utensils and leaves to cool swirls.
Go to Joseph’s page to find out how to get your photo added to the pile. What! You don’t take photos of security envelope patterns?

When milk bottles say Boo! If you ever thought small plastic milk bottles were useless junk, think again.
Jane from Fun in the Making, a green crafting website with sustainable living tips, sent this ghostly project to me.
She collects single-use milk bottles from places like Chic-fil-A and turns them into fun Halloween favors for her parties. Visit Easy Ghost Party Favors for instructions from Jane. You’ll have fun deciding what to put inside your ghosts.

Don welded spare pieces of metal and nails together to create these fun lawn sculptures that Linette enjoys.
Which one do you like best?

A few rules though: It should be your original creation (not someone else’s idea), and it should be reasonably safe to make and use. The thrill of sharing is your reward. That means you won’t receive a prize, but I can include your website link in the post.
So, please have fun, and send those short junk creation descriptions to …read more
