My friends at Zoosk.com emailed recently with some great tips, I figured they were worth considering and chatting about!

And, we are not alone – with meeting people on the outside becoming increasingly hard, everyone is dating online – except a lot of us don’t know how to do it best.

My friends at Zoosk.com emailed recently with some great tips, I figured they were worth considering and chatting about!

1. Show what you are all about.

The idea is to put yourself in the best light, but also to show your true personality. List your favorite songs instead of saying something like “I like alternative rock.”

2. Use spell check!

Don’t type lyk u spended teh laste 10 yeers uv ur lyfe doin IM. Your computer has spell check. Use it. A sloppy profile reflects poorly on you as a person. It implies that you don’t care or are not putting much effort into finding a date. We know that is not true because why else would you maintain an online dating profile?

3. Keep your profile updated.

I have a tendency to get lazy in my own dating profile, and that’s dumb. Sure, you have created a profile and uploaded a picture, but that ain’t gonna cut it. On a weekly basis, make updates to your profile. Add new pictures and new information about your interests. If you can’t commit to your dating profile, how will you to dating???

Everyone has those early date bonding “tools” – whether it’s shared love of food, or museums, or whatever – but shared taste in music and movies can be a biggie. Or at least a great conversation starter!

A dating website called me up the other day to tell me that they were now linking up their online dating profiles with Last.FM and Netflix settings – that way, when checking out a potential partner, you can see what music and movies they were into.

At first I was like…why? And then I realized it was the best idea ever.

Everyone has those early date bonding “tools” – whether it’s shared love of food, or museums, or whatever – but shared taste in music and movies can be a biggie. Or at least a great conversation starter!

The site I am talking about is Zoosk, and the way it works is users link their Last.fm and Netflix accounts to their Zoosk Date Card by providing their Last.fm username or a link to their Netflix queue’s RSS feed. Once a user links their accounts to their profile on Zoosk, music picks made on Last.fm and movie titles selected on Netflix will automatically appear on the user’s Zoosk Date Card.

It’s very similiar to feeding in stuff like your Yelp restaurant reviews to FaceBook (which I also do!).

But then I wondered…can this tool be manipulated? Will people start “doctoring” their netflix and LastFm to gear it toward the “type” of person they wish to meet?

Maybe I’m just jaded. The “talk” is tomorrow…
