51 Apple Pie Recipes

In my neck of the woods, late September and early October are apple picking time. We love taking our son to the orchard for a day of apple picking and other fun entertainment. While we love the outing, we also have to be mindful of what to pick. Apples do last for a while, but still, a family of three has to get creative to use up three bushels of apples. To me it’s all about the pie. Really, nothing says heaven like a slice of warm apple pie with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream sliding over the top.
In honor of a wonderful day spent with family and my favorite dessert, I give you:

51. Deb’s Holiday/Potluck Apple Pie
Ingredients
- 2 pie crusts (Your own recipe or store bought)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 8 apples, cored, pared and sliced according to preference (My preference is for Granny Smith)
Directions
1. Melt butter in a small sauce pan. Stir in flour to form a paste, add sugars and water and bring to a boil. Let simmer for about 5 minutes.
2. Place the bottom crust in a pie pan. Fill with sliced apples. Cover with the top crust, it’s important for the crust to have holes so either vent or use a lattice. Gently pour the sugar and butter mixture over the crust so it falls inside - but also coats the crust. I use a pastry brush to coat the crust.
3. Bake at 425 for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350 degrees and continue to bake for another 35 to 45 minutes.

Oh I love apples!! I am definitely trying your recipe. Sounds tasty.
I just picked a bag of apples today at the winery where I used to work. The only problem is which one to choose???
