A great teeth whitener for the frugal

Ever wonder how to whiten your teeth for pretty much free?  I used to do this on as regular basis but I admit that I haven’t used the recipe in a while.  You can tell just by my smile.  I have the worst teeth when it comes to stains.  I have always wanted to get them whitened by a dentist but I won’t pay for it.  I’m so cheap!

So are you curious as to what it is?  It’s not free but it might as well be…  Baking soda.  That’s right.  Baking soda.  The paste made from baking soda and a little water has many benefits.  I found a reminder of why it works so well when I was surfing about.com.  Here are some of the reasons why baking soda works so well.

  • It removes stains from between your teeth
  • It’s less abrasive
  • It’s all natural
  • It’s gentle on your gums
  • It’s gentle on your enamel
  • It’s totally the easiest whitener to use

Good luck and let me know what you think.

I just buy toothpaste with baking soda in it because if I remember correctly, baking soda doesn’t taste so good.

Grandma taught me a LONG time ago to brush once a week with baking soda and a bit of salt mixed.

Even when I was smoking and have always been a heavy coffee and tea drinker, I have amazingly white teeth that are super healthy.

Almost 40 and never had the first cavity EVER.

It’s an acquired taste. I’ve bought my 2 boxes for 1 dollar. Budget-wise, it fits! I look forward to what I can buy with the savings-

My son did a science project on this subject this year. He compared top-rated whiteners against a little-known dental application: baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. It was amazing how well the baking sode/hydrogran peroxide worked. Tastes horrible, and you can’t swallow any of it! But, once a week I spend two minutes with the stuff in my mouth. Not only does it whiten and brighten those coffee and tea stains, but my gums are healthy and bright from the hydrogen peroxide treatment. It is a natural killer of dangerous bacteria that can cause tooth decay and gengivitis.

Sandy, so do you rinse with it or brush with it? I have always brushed with BS and h20 but am willing to try that mix in spite of the taste.
