Thrifty Mommy

Angelina Jolie is Thrifty

angelina 2 Angelina Jolie may be the face of the St. John clothing line, but her dress for the NYC premiere of “A Mighty Heart” Wednesday night was pure thrift shop.

So, did she show up wearing St. John?  Nope!

Angie tells “Access” that the crushed velvet dress she was wearing came from a vintage store.  Best of all, the outfit’s total cost was $26!!!!  I can hardly believe it.

This should be a lesson for all of us.  Sometimes people think that when an event is coming, they have to go out and spend hundreds of dollars on a dress, shoes, earrings, etc.  Some think it is beneath them to shop in a thrift store.

Personally, I think there is nothing wrong with shopping in a thrift store.  If it’s good enough for Angelina Jolie, then it ought to be good enough for all of us.  If you feel embarrassed to shop in a thrift store, then perhaps it will make you feel better to call it vintage.   :)

Well, I think it was more like $26 for the dress and $800 for the stylist to go out hunting in the Thrift Shop on her behalf.

I find it’s much cheaper to do things myself rather than hire someone to do it for me. If that means hours poking through a thrift shop, then it means hours of poking through a thrift shop.

  2. Ebay is a good place to buy vintage too or cut costs on the clothing budget, especially if you are one of those people who feel they have to go to the grocery store decked out in Prada. But before you bid make sure you check out the seller’s feedback and don’t get into a bidding war, just because you don’t think you can live with out the cute clothes auctions you have been watching!

Kate said it best. Plus the cost of her shoes which I hear were to the tune of $800. Thrifty? Not so much.

  4. Karen says:

$800 does sound like a lot, but $800 to Angelina Jolie is probably like $2 for the rest of us. lol
