Angelina Jolie Wants to Live a Thrifty Life

Did you know that ordinary folks aren’t the only ones concerned about living a thrifty lifestyle? Many celebrities have been living frugally for years. They’ve seen other movie stars blow through their money and end up on the streets or they’re simply sick of a life of excess.

Angelina Jolie is one movie star who wants to be frugal. However, her desire to spend less and to raise her kids so they don’t become obsessed with money is causing a problem many frugal people with less thrifty spouses have. According to the gossip zines, Brad Pitt is a bit upset that his wife is trying to stop him from spending some of the money he had been earning on non-essential things. She wants to avoid wasting money when people who are less fortunate are literally starving to death all over the globe. While her husband certainly doesn’t want people to starve and is involved in many charitable pursuits, he feels that he deserves to spend at least part of what he earns on frivolous stuff.

I have to admit, if Brad Pitt saves a substantial amount and pays all his bills, I think he should be able to have a specific amount of his income to play around with. Putting yourself on a budget that leaves no room for entertainment and has no specific goal to save for can end up making you so frustrated and resentful that you actually start to spend more on non-essentials.

I agree that you have to reward yourself, but do we really know what Pitt is wanting to buy? I’m sure we’re not talking lattes here.

  2. Eliza says:

Well we do know that they have the kids wearing the older siblings stuff. Course those houses (castles) they buy probably isn’t that cheap. But I have noticed a lot of celebrities going cheaper.

  3. Interesting, Katelyn. It’s easy to feel comfortable being “thrifty” when you don’t have to worry about money. But I give her credit if she’s trying to keep her costs down. From caviar to lobster (altho lobster actually is pretty reasonable in New England this fall.)

Give me a break. Personal chefs, houses all over the world, and 10,000 dollar purses? Angelina might like the sound of “I want to be thrifty” coming out of her mouth, but she is anything but.

  5. Oh, wow. I didn’t know they were married. When did that happen? I really feel out of the loop now.

  6. Gayla McCord says:

Very interesting. While there are so many things I don’t like about Jolie – there are more and more things I do like. It’s amazing what a half dozen kids will do to change a person ;)

    Thrifty Karen,
No, you’re not out of the loop. They just seem so married that I keep forgetting they aren’t. They say they are never going to have a wedding unless everyone else who wants to be legally married can get married, too. Although rumors were really flying in March when they went down to New Orleans and everyone thought they had a wedding.

    Peggy,
Most of the things Brad Pitt seems to be buying seem like they’ll have resale value and could be investments. Jewelry, art, etc. It is hard to tell if he is overspending on playthings when their income is so enormous, but he certainly isn’t as thrifty as Angelina Jolie!

  9. Michelle says:

It’s all relative – what seems extravagant to us might seem thrifty to her. She did grow up with a famous father and attended the Oscars when she was 12 or 13 – most people haven’t lived the way she has.
