Cate Blanchett goes green saves on water…and shampoo

I’m a sucker for stories about the rich and famous going green or saving money. Imagine how delighted I was to read on I Don’t Like You That Way that Cate Blanchett is into conserving water:
”The actress admits she has installed timers all around her home to restrict energy levels – and one is even on her shower head. Now she’s no longer washing her hair, Blanchett has realized, “I only need to have a two minute shower.” She adds, “I went to a website and my husband was laughing at me because a box arrived with 30 timers, and I thought, ‘Excellent, stocking fillers!’”
Rock on, Kate.
Incidentally, I read that it’s healthier for your hair NOT to wash it every day. By washing it all the time you strip off all the essential oils necessary to keep your scalp and hair healthy and shiny. It’s actually recommended we wash our hair every two to three days. This ensures healthy hair plus you save water and money on your utility and shampoo bills.

That tip is true! I have hair to my waist and it’s naturally curly and a nightmare (like the curls will fizz). But I saw a tip about only washing your hair every other time you wash and it seriously works. My hair is a lot calmer, more shiny, less nuts, less frizzy, ultra beautiful!
Ok, it’s not ultra beautiful but the other stuff is all true I swear.
My hair only gets washed every second or third day, but that is because of life as a busy mother! Glad to know that I’m also helping the environment. . .
Ugh. There’s a “don’t wash your hair” movement inspired by a book called Curly Girl. As in, NEVER wash it. You’re supposed to clean it with conditioner…. wtf.
Also, don’t use silicone products, don’t blow dry, don’t use a hairbrush. Too weird for me.
Great site! But remember, there are more folks out there besides white, okay caucasian folks. If you were to wash African American hair more than one a week, it would be unbearably dry and brittle. So just remember, there are other types of hair on this planet!
Good job, otherwise. Great blog.
