Christmas should not arrive before Thanksgiving
Ok, one of the advantages of blogging is that you can rant in public without getting into too much trouble. I have a pet peeve. Christmas DOES NOT COME BEFORE Thanksgiving!!!!
Santa Clause is already at my local mall and I just think that that is wrong. Christmas has been long advertised as a commercial event. Whatever happened to hanging out with family and eating until you couldn’t move? Why can’t we just give pictures for presents instead of bankrupting our pockets? The fact of the matter is that kids want to box more than they want the toy most of the time until a certain age so why waste your money? Last year, my daughter was 8 months old and I didn’t buy her a single present except for the nursery that she sleeps in and the diapers that cover her butt and the swing that she slept in ….. this year we are painting her room for Christmas. She will never know the difference.
Am I harsh? I don’t think so. Next year she will understand and we will get her gifts. But this year she has 3 sets of grandparents, 2 great grandparents, 6 aunts and uncles and numerous cousins on all sides. Her Christmas will be filled. So far we just have the one but in the years to come, I hope we can stick with the plan.
The moral of the rant is that you don’t have to spend tons of money on new babies for the holidays. Take their picture. That’s what all the grown ups want any way.
OK. I’m breathing now….
I don’t spend a lot on my kids either. I think it’s nonsense. They don’t know any better. Last year my son was almost 5 months old at Christmas. I got him a $30 Tonya truck on clearance for $17 and that was all I got him. This year I am buying them things together that they both can enjoy. They will be just as happy.
I have been spending the past 3 years having these great birthday parties for my daughter. Her birthday is on the 4th and this year we were at our friend’s house for a cookout and swimming. We had some cupcakes for her and sang. She was just as happy with that little party as she was at her real party.
Many times we parents just overdo it!

Christmas was in the stores here the week before Halloween. Shameful! Annoying! Let the wild rumpus die down before we move into jingle bells, please!
I really don’t like the idea that we can’t enjoy Thanksgiving and give it our full attention because we are already hearing Christmas carols. Don’t get me wrong. Christmas is my favorite holiday. I just don’t want it to get overkill.
