Cleaning is really not fun, and depending on the age of your child, (or your husband)accomodations have to be made. Why is it my job to sort through piles of mess on the floor and strewn articles if my children are old enough to accomplish this by themselves?I take a laundry basket in the room, toss all out of place stuff in it, run the vacuum, dust and make the bed. The basket gets placed on the bed and I put the timer on the kids! Anything left in the basket is assumed to be "not wanted" and I toss it out. You would be amazed how quickly they learn to put their belongings out of site and where it should be. Why should anyone have a possession if it is not appreciated or cared for?By the way, I DO NOT replace tossed items! May cost a few dollars, but cheap at the price to teach your children respect for property and a bit of organization in their life. This works for smaller children too..but put the stuff away and give it to them for a birthday or christmas gift, or when they get really bored and cranky.Tell them it "came back home" to be loved.

Karen,
When my 4 daughter were all home we had the endless job of matching up socks and getting them to the rightful owner! Here was my game I played with the girls when they were young.
I took the box full of unmatched socks and laid them in a row creating a "sock road." If there were a ton of them, I would have a two lane road! Then I would ramble my road around the house, from the laundry room, down the hall, up the stairs heading to their bedrooms. They were then given one sock, (hopefully their own) and told to follow the road until they could find the correct match and put in a pile near there dresser. The winner had the most matched socks at that end and then we would have some silly prize and announce them as "Sock Princess for the Day!" No it didn't work as they got older, but it did help when they learned to not like the game to get them to match the socks as they came out of the dryer instead of just throughing them in the sock box!! Tee- Hee!!

I cleaned today. I go room to room. I make the bed, pick up stuff off the floor, put away laundry, vacuum, and anything else the room needs. I do the bedrooms first and then move on to the living room. Today I did 3 bedrooms, the living room, and the play room. Of course, there's always laundry and dishes to do too.

Having a clean house used to be my biggest source of stress. My husband and I could never have someone over on the spur of the moment, because I was always embarrassed at the state of our home.

I joined flylady about a month ago and have been flying high ever since. It's the weekend and my husband is talking about having some guys over to play cards tomorrow night.....now I don't have to be stressed and stay home all day cleaning! I can go garage saleing as planned!!!

Thanks for the tips. Little reminders always do wonders for motivation.
