Crocheted Plastic Bag Bags

I think these are so cool! I always feel guilty when I’m standing at the grocery store checkout and the cashier is loading my haul into a multitude of plastic bags. I’ve often thought of buying some of those cloth grocery bags, but I know I’ll probably forget to take them with me every time I go shopping. Plus I’m cheap.
This is a great idea. Take all the plastic bags that are overflowing that one kitchen drawer and actually make my own reusable totes and once and for all cease my insane plastic bag binges.
There’s a few links here and I’m sure some of you will know of some more. First, there’s Marlo’s Crochet Corner with her pattern for a plastic tote that requires 65 shopping bags to make plus another page that explains how to cut the bags and make your ‘ball of yarn’ from them.
Then, the maker of the bags pictured above is Portuguese craft-blogger Rosa Pomar. This link will take you to the page for one of them and then you can following the links to the other pages. Her site is in Portuguese, but there are links to english translations on each page as well.
Finally, here’s a link to Melisa at Gotta Make…Something with her account of making one.
Alright, now I only have one problem. I don’t know how to crochet. “Honey? Come here…I’ve got something neat to show you!”

Oh yes!!! I was just telling someone the other day about crocheted grocery sack bags. I’ve been wanting to try making one to see how durable they actually are, but was too lazy to go Google.
Lots and lots of time to make the “yarn” (it takes quite a lot of bags to make one big bag) and hard on your fingers, but VERY worth it. Incredibly sturdy. Mine can hold 60 POUNDS of groceries! Admittedly, you’ll break your back getting it up the stairs, but your bag won’t break.
