DIY Fence Project Update: Those Darn Trees

Every time we try and get some work done on this fence project, something else pops up. Take the case of the trees. The trees growing around the fence were small when we moved here about six years ago. In our naivete, city folk that we were, we thought he trees would give us a bit of privacy. Besides we were taught to respect trees, not cut them down.
Well, in order to replace the fence we have to take down the trees. We thought about moving the fence back further on our property, but as the fence posts are still good, we’re choosing to only replace the fence panels and thus, the trees must go.
So, now we have to not only stain the panels, rip off the old fence panels and affix the new, but we have to chop down trees and chop the wood. We just don’t have time. Finally, we’re getting help. I’m having several handy men come in today to offer quotes as to how much this project will run. We’re all for the DIY life, but sometimes it’s ok to hire a little help.

I had three trees chopped down in the front of my house for $600. Since you have a big open area I see from the video for the trees to fall. I would say the price should be comparible.
We kept all of our wood from the backyard tress for summer fire pits. We cut those down ourself. The front trees, the guy took along to sell the wood.
It’s good when to know to admit defeat. Sometimes your time and sanity are worth more than the money you will save.
You get the points for the effort, though.
What kind of trees are those? They look like mimosas. I can’t stand those things. They grow quickly like weeds. It is well worth getting rid of them. Make sure they get all of it so they don’t grow back.
Wow – they look like nice trees. Too bad you don’t know someone who would want them. They could pay to have them dug up and transplanted. It probably wouldn’t be a quick job, though. Well, good luck!

You’re right, you have to strike the balance between when doing it yourself is simply not cost effective when you consider your time.
More than that, sometimes doing it yourself costs you more because there are just people who know how to do things quicker and cheaper because it’s their specialty.
