Thrifty Mommy

Ever wonder what you did with your time before you were a mom/dad?

I often wonder what I did before I became a parent. After you read my list, don’t think I am a horrible mommy. I am just an honest one that you can identify with if you let yourself. The first few things that come to mind are

  • I had more money
  • I had more sleep
  • I could drop what I was doing and go to a movie any time
  • I could leave the kitchen a mess without having to worry my kids would be slobs by example
  • I could go out to eat guilt free (because I had money)
  • I worked full time
  • I could go to bed and wake up when I wanted to

I could go on and on. But I got an email from my cousin this morning and it reminded me of why we love being parents and why we struggle to save time and money every day. Our kids are worth it. The poem focuses on mommy but daddy fits perfectly as I am reminded of last night when my husband took car eof my little one @ 4 am becasue she woke up and couldn’t get back to sleep.

So I hope you enjoy this and know that all your sacrifices are worth it when you go to put your little one to bed and then ask to rock wth you just a few minutes longer. Not becasue they don’t want to go to bed, but they just love to cuddle with you after a long day of not having you around. I almost cried last night. So I hop eyou enjoy this and I will see you later.

Before I was a Mom I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.

I didn’t worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.

I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom – I had never been puked on.

Pooped on.

Chewed on.

Peed on.

I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.

I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom I never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests.

Or give shots.

I never looked into teary eyes and cried.

I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.

I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn’t want to put them
down.

I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn’t stop the hurt.

I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.

I never knew that I could love someone so much.

I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom – I didn’t know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.

I didn’t know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.

I didn’t know that bond between a mother and her child.

I didn’t know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom – I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes
to make sure all was okay.

I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.

I didn’t know I was capable of feeling so much, before I was a Mom.

Ha – I like the “slobs by example” one! My Mom sent me this poem when my boys were a couple months old – mostly because of the “puked on” line :)

Yes, all the sacrifices are definitely worth it when they fall asleep with their head on your shoulder.
