Thrifty Mommy

Food Lion Saving with no coupons

I realize that my co-author (hi, Karen) will cringe at this post , but I have to tell you that I saved almost 50% on my grocery bill with NO coupons. I have said over and over again that most grocery stores run pretty good sales if you follow them closely. So I went to Food Lion the other day needing a can of veggies and found myself buying some really good deals. When I came out, my bill was $27.57. But I saved $13.14 in store coupons just by buying the sale items. So, although using coupons is a great way to save $, and I do recommend it, just shopping the store sales can also save you a lot of money.
BTW … I got raspberries for $2. They were the hit of the party and all the mothers there thought I spent a fortune. HEE HEE! We won’t tell them I was cheap.

It is good to shop the sales but you really need to combine sales and coupons. That’s how you really save. For example, last night at Publix my total was $61.67 and I paid $38.24. Today at Ingles, my total was $58.29. I paid $34.33. So see it really pays to clip coupons and pair them with the sales.

I totally agree that coupons are the way to go. I just didn’t have any with me at the moment.

HA! You got caught! But that’s okay, I knew you were thrifty – nothing cheap about that! And the raspberries were great – and they’re usually SO expensive! Thanks!
